We decided to try our luck with the new fishing rod. While underway, Kevin and Serhad put a cedar plug on the end of the fishing pole line and a blue and silver squid on the handline (no bait needed). It wasn’t long when they had fish on both lines. To our surprise they caught two yellow-finned tuna, both were both about 28″ long. Since our freezer is full and we can’t have uncooked fish when we arrive in Cabo, we decided to keep just one tuna and let the other one go. They bled it out by tying a line to its tail and towing it behind the boat hoping not to attract sharks. Thanks to Jeff Stewart who bought us fishing tackle for the trip and to Casey McNeese for sharing his book Cruisers Handbook to Fishing. They have proved to be very useful! Thank you!
The sail to Cabo from San Diego includes 3 overnights. Our schedule is 3 hours on watch then 3 hours to sleep. This is not an ideal schedule but it will have to work until we arrive at Turtle Bay. Last night Kevin & I were on watch during the night and the moon had gone behind the clouds and we were sailing in total darkness. We have radar to guide us but its still quite eerie.
We are all excited to get to Turtle Bay and meet the people who live in the village and play some baseball with the kids. They have been waiting all year for our arrival. Looking forward to the taco and tequila bar on the beach, too. The money raised will be donated to the school in the village.
